Post Partum Soupercharger

Congratulations mumma! You’re about to enter the ‘Golden Month’ - a time that is transformational for women.

The Golden Month is the Chinese name for the special weeks following childbirth, usually a 4-6 week joyful period where the new mum focusses on rest and nurturing her newborn, and is traditioanlly cared for by older women in her communiy.

It is believed that many chronic diseases can be cured if the mother has adequate time to recover and is looked after properly in her ‘Golden Month’.

Our Post Partum recovery pack helps new mothers recover from any kind of birth in our modern world using diet therapy and post partum moxibustion therapy known as ‘Mother Warming’.

Each Post Partum Soupercharger pack contains:

  • Post Partum broth enhancer

  • Moxibustion stick

Post Partum broth enhancer
The herbal pack contains a traditional blend of Eastern botanicals to add to a chicken or vegetable stock recipe and powerfully helps new mothers recover lost Qi, Blood and Yin during the birth, warding off common post partum ailments.

Based on Chinese medicine principles, this formulation is also known to help prevent afterpains, fatigue, persistent night sweating, low or poor quality milk production, and post partum blues among other ailments after birth. If symptoms persist, please contact your Chinese medicine herbalist for further help.

The soup can be made ahead of time and frozen in portions so it is ready to be taken straight away. Cooking instructions below.

Moxibustion stick
The moxibustion or ‘moxa’ stick is for a useful one-off treatment called Mother Warming. The treatment is given around day four or five post-birth. It can be utilised to energise women and aid recovery of the uterus.

Moxa sticks are made from the leaves of Ai Ye Artemisia argyi and used in traditional Chinese medicine. The moxa stick supplied in the pack has undergone a charcoal process to produce a stick that emits less smoke, making it ideal for home use. Directions for use below.

Moxibustion

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • A cigarette lighter or candle

  • A small towel to place under the area being treated

  • A glass screw-top jar

DIRECTIONS

Light one end of the moxa stick with a lighter or candle. When correctly lit you will be able to hold the lit end two to three centimetres from the back of your hand and feel a pleasant radiating warmth, and never in direct contact with the skin.

Hold the lit moxa stick at least two to three centimetres over the midline of the lower abdomen. Run the stick up and down the midline from the pubic bone to the belly button for 5-10 minutes, or until the mother fees pleasantly warm.

With the aid of a partner or support person, the same can be repeated on the reverse side at the back midline along the lumbar spine.

Any ash that forms can be gently brushed off by using the edge of the small dish or jar.

When treatment has finished place the moxa stick in a glass jar lined with dry rice. Alternatively you can snuff out the lit moxa stick by running under cold water.

Discontinue use if you suffer from excessive or night sweating.

Warning: Never touch the lighted end of the moxa stick even if it no longer appears to be glowing.
