I’ve been making this deodorant (or some variation of it) for over 12 years. This version has much less bi-carb soda which can be an irritant to some and was to me at the start. However, because I’ve included Diamaceous earth or Bentonite clay, you get the same ‘detox’ elements and can be readily omitted.
1 Tblsp baking soda (optional)
1/4 cup food grade Diatamaceous Earth or Bentonite Clay powder
1/4 cup arrowroot powder (also known as tapioca flour)
1 Tblsp coconut oil
2 Tblsp Shea butter or Cocoa butter
1 Tblsp Beeswax
10 drops essential oil blend. My fave at the moment: Lemon, Lime, Basil, Vetivier
In a double broiler (metal bowl over a simmering pot of water) gently melt the beeswax, butters and oils. Remove from heat and transfer to a ceramic bowl*.
With a wooden spoon mix in the powders and essential oils. Allow to cool to semi-solid and then every few minutes give the mix a whip with the wooden spoon. Alternatively you can let cool and harden in the bowl and to get a nice mousse-like texture transfer to a blender and pulse until creamy.
Transfer to an amble jar and store for use and as gifts!
NOTE: To super charge your deodorant, add 1 Tsp Huang Bai powder at the mixing stage This damp-heat clearing herb is good for topical use and will help ‘detox’ the armpits. Really great if you suffer from yellow staining (do note the herb itself is yellow!). Contact the clinic to order.
*Some sources say that Bentonite clay reacts to metal.
